The Democratic candidate challenging Rep. Summer Lee (D-Pennsylvania) in Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District has launched its first crime-focused ad.
Laurie MacDonald, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Victims Center, made her first on-air appearance in an ad released Wednesday.
In the ad, reviewed by The Hill, McDonald describes himself as a “law and order Democrat” and vows to bring it to Congress if elected.
“Hello, I’m Laurie McDonald,” she says in the ad. “I’m running for Congress against Summer Lee because you deserve better. I’m a Democrat who supports law and order. I’m the CEO of the Victims Center and… , we fight for the rights of victims, not the rights of criminals. If you’re tired of divisive rhetoric and “us vs. them” thinking, I’m with you too. . Let’s make this change happen together. ”
The ad is scheduled to air for two weeks starting Wednesday and will air on CNN and MSNBC, as well as in the Pittsburgh Designated Market Area (DMA).
McDonald announced his candidacy in early January. Along with Lee, who is currently serving his first term in the House, he will be running against Edgewood Ward Councilwoman Babini Patel.
“It’s time for Congressional leaders to unite us instead of leading to division and mistrust,” McDonald said in a statement provided to The Hill. “I will be a unifying voice in Congress and work across political lines to bring real solutions. I am proud to be the first candidate in this race on television. , we will significantly ramp up our efforts in the coming weeks to show voters that there are good alternatives to polarizing incumbents.”
Lee, who won the 2022 race to become the state’s first black congressman, is backed by Democratic Senate leaders in his bid for re-election in 2024. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (New York), Whip Katherine Clark (D-Connecticut), and Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) approved Lee in mid-January.Most recently, the Allegheny County Democratic Committee approved she.
