Caitlin Clark wasn’t the only one setting a new NCAA record Thursday night.
Francis Marion’s Lauryn Taylor set a Division I, II and III national record with 44 rebounds in the Patriots’ 85-62 Division II win over North Greenville.
The 5-foot-11 center controlled the glass, grabbing 30 defensive boards and 14 offensive rebounds, setting single-game records.
Taylor, a native of Blythewood, S.C., surpassed his previous season-high rebound total of 21, set on Jan. 13 against Lees-McRae.
In doing so, Taylor broke the old NCAA record of 40 rebounds, set almost exactly 41 years ago, on February 14, 1983, by Delta State’s Deborah Temple in a Division I game against Alabama and Birmingham.
She also broke the college rebound record of 32, held by LaRue Fields in a 1976 win over South Carolina.
The senior also surpassed the early Division II mark of 36 boards set by former West Virginia Tech player Christine DeSine in a 1995 game against Ohio Valley.
The current Division III record is 38 rebounds.
Taylor started Thursday with 16 boards in the first quarter.
He also scored a career-high 34 points in 26 minutes, achieving his 18th double-double of the season.
Taylor led the team, averaging 18.5 points and 15 rebounds while shooting 45.3 percent from the field.
The Patriots (17-6) currently hold the top seed in the Conference Carolinas and are 12-2 against conference opponents.
There are four regular season games remaining before the CC Tournament begins on March 3rd.
