Tiger Woods withdraws from Genesis Invitational with illness

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — Tiger Woods suddenly withdrew from the second round of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club on Friday after telling tournament officials he was “ill.”

Woods, whose foundation organizes the tournament, hit his tee shot into the middle of the fairway on the seventh hole before being chased off the course in a golf cart by rules officials.

At this point he was outside the cut line at two overs.

Woods, 48, who appeared wincing after hitting his tee shot on the seventh hole, played with a full field in an official PGA Tour event for the first time since the 2023 Masters and then underwent fusion surgery in 2021. The bone in his right leg was injured in a car accident in 2007.

Woods shot a 1-over-par 72 in Thursday’s first round, a round dimmed by an unusually shank 8-iron approach shot on the 18th.th This hole led to the final bogey.
