The Mavs sent Williams to the Charlotte Hornets just before the deadline, and there appear to be a number of reasons behind that.
Dallas was apparently unhappy with Williams, as he was apparently “yelling” and not feeling well.
“One of the ways Grant Williams has rubbed people the wrong way is, gah, gah, gah. Obviously that’s part of him,” ESPN reporter Tim McMahon said on NBA Insider . Brian Windhorst Podcast. “It’s fascinatingly obnoxious when he’s productive, but frustrating when he’s not. But he didn’t report good condition, and Grant Williams, who is not in good condition, is not a good defender.”

Overall, the trade gave Williams, guard Seth Curry and a 2027 first-round pick to Charlotte in exchange for forward P.J. Washington and two second-round picks.
Williams spent his first four NBA seasons with the Boston Celtics before signing and trading with Dallas this offseason.
Throughout the 47 games he played with the Mavs, his playing time decreased.
The team is not only 4-0 since signing Williams, but also 5-0 in games he missed earlier this season.
It’s also worth noting that the Hornets are 3-0 since acquiring Williams, so the trade seems to have worked out well for everyone.
The Mavs are aiming to return to the playoffs this season after last year’s debacle. They acquired guard Kyrie Irving at last year’s trade deadline, which was a clear sign of making the playoffs as they held a postseason berth at the time.
But things couldn’t get any worse. Dallas was 8-12 when Irving played. missed the playoffs This is the first time since the 2018-19 season.
