Darnell Taylor, 5, found dead in Ohio sewage drain, adoptive mom arrested

A 5-year-old Ohio boy who went missing with his foster mother was found dead in a sewer drain early Friday morning, two days after an Amber Alert was issued.

Darnell Taylor was reported missing Wednesday after the boy’s legal guardian, Pammy Mae’s husband, called 911 around 3 a.m., accusing her of harming Darnell Taylor.

May, 48, who was arrested on Thursday night, is said to have woken up her husband and told him the boy was “no longer with us” and “no longer alive.” According to Fox19.

Taylor was found in a drainage ditch on Marsdale Avenue around 1 a.m. Friday.

Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said at a news conference that police were called to the store after receiving a report of a woman walking suspiciously around the store.

She was arrested and told police Taylor’s body was located on Marsdale Street.

“While this is not the outcome we wanted, we will do everything we can to bring justice to Darnell,” Bryant said.

Her empty Jeep Cherokee was later found at an apartment complex in Brooklyn, Ohio, according to Fox 19.

She was apprehended and arrested late Thursday.

According to WBNS, Taylor has not seen her biological family since July, shortly after leaving home, less than a year after May was detained.

Before gaining legal custody of Taylor, May had known the family for years and attended parties and dinners, but her family recently told WBNS that she had stopped answering her phone calls.

“We went to their house and knocked on the front door and knocked on the back door and they didn’t answer,” Taylor’s biological grandmother Tawanda told the outlet. “We thought maybe she was keeping him away from us to be part of her family first, but six months…that’s a long time.”

Taylor’s biological grandfather described the boy as “rough” and “unmanageable,” but said he remembered the boy as having a “bubbly personality” and always smiling and dancing.

“I don’t want to say we couldn’t handle him, but we didn’t want him in the system,” Anthony told WBNS.

The couple said they partially blamed themselves for Taylor’s death.

May has been charged with kidnapping and child endangerment. according to people. Prosecutors are planning to apply murder charges.
