Jordan Spieth won’t play this weekend at Riviera, but it’s not because he missed out on a spot.
The three-time major champion was disqualified from the Genesis Invitational after signing the wrong scorecard after the second round on Friday.
Spieth made bogey on the par-3 fourth hole on the Southern California course, but it was recorded as a par.

The 29-year-old shot a 2-over 73 on the day, but not a 72 as written on the card, giving him a tournament total of 3 under. Spieth shot a 66 in the first round, putting him in good position.
Typically, someone with whom a golfer is paired, or a “marker,” records that golfer’s score.
The USGA and R&A define a marker as “a person responsible for entering a player’s scores on a player’s scorecard and certifying that scorecard.” This rule also states that the marker “may” be the player, which is almost always the case.
It is the golfer’s responsibility to ensure the score is correct. Spieth was paired with Patrick Cantlay and Tom Kim, who were five shots behind at 13 under. Spieth and Cantlay have competed together in numerous Ryder Cups and Presidents Cups as U.S. teammates.
