New York City’s mean streets aren’t so rough after all.
The Big Apple ranked fifth on the list. Best cities for dog walking in 2024according to research released this week by LawnStarter ahead of National Walk the Dog Day on February 22nd.
The company surveyed 480 major U.S. cities to find dog-friendly trails, off-leash parks, and other amenities.
Colorado Springs topped the list, followed by San Francisco, Phoenix and Boulder.
Gramercy dog photographer Carmen Gonzalez said life in Manhattan isn’t exactly canine life for man’s best friend.
“New York has it all: Central Park and its many trails, no-lead hours, Hudson River Park, [where] The path is long and you’re on the water, Karl Schulz Park [with] “It’s a nice walk along the little trails and the East River,” she said.
Jolie Dudley of Williamsburg said it’s no wonder Gotham made it to the top of the list because so many dogs are confined to small apartments.
“Puppies need daily walks because of space limitations in Manhattan,” says Dudley, founder of Must Love Dogs and Comedy, Inc., an organization that produces dog-friendly comedy shows. .
“In other cities I’ve lived in, I had to drive my dog to parks and other dog-friendly areas.”
Giselle Torres of Colorado Springs said she wasn’t surprised by her city’s top ranking because it’s the perfect place for both humans and dogs.
“Coloradoans love the outdoors, so of course they bring their dogs,” she said. “There are lots of trails and outdoor spaces to explore.”
The best cities for dogs to walk their four-legged friends are Kansas City, Kansas, Montgomery, Alabama, and at the bottom of the list, Memphis, Tennessee.
