Kansas City mayor accuses governor of racial ‘dog whistle’ for calling parade shooters ‘thugs’

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas called Missouri Gov. Mike Parson a racist “dog whistle” when he called the suspected shooters “thugs” at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade. ” was accused of using.

Lucas made the comments during an appearance on local radio show “Up to Date” on Friday.

He told KCUR host Steve Craske that he has seen similar incidents of alleged racism “over and over again.”

“We can’t let some thugs take over and ruin what happened,” Parson said after the shooting.

“I respect the governor. We get along very well,” Lucas told Craske. “I strongly disagree with how he describes the situation. I certainly think this was a criminal act. It was a lawless area, I think it’s a nuisance. “Kin” is a dog whistle in the most classic sense. ”

“I have seen this dog whistle many times. Now on social media, the reason these mugshots were not published is because the alleged defendant is black. “There’s some kind of huge conservative theory that if it was a white defendant, we would have just released it. That’s just ridiculous. There are protections for juveniles,” he added.

Two minors have been charged with gun-related offenses in connection with a shooting last week that left one person dead and 22 injured.
