Mets bring back ex-Yankee Luke Voit to add another DH option

The Mets are bringing back a familiar face and another cost-effective DH option to further strengthen their lineup.

Luke Voit, who appeared in 37 games for the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate last year, has agreed to return to the club on a minor league contract, the Post’s Mike Puma reports.

The 33-year-old played parts of four seasons with the Yankees from 2018 to 2021, hitting .264/.415/.643 with 14 home runs and 35 RBIs in 2023 with Triple-A Syracuse.

The Mets signed the right-handed slugger to a minor league contract last June after he was released by the Brewers after failing to hit a home run in 74 at-bats.

He was then released by the Mets in August.

Voit hit 68 home runs in 281 regular season games with the Yankees and led the majors with 22 home runs during the coronavirus-shortened 2020 season.

The Yankees traded Voit to the Padres in 2022, and San Diego traded him to the Nationals later that year.

The reunion with Voit comes just days after the Mets agreed to a one-year split contract with left-handed hitter Ji-Man Choi.

Choi, 32, played for the Pirates and Padres last season, batting .163 with six home runs in a total of 39 games.

Choi had a brief stint with the Brewers in 2018 under Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns and appeared in six games with the Yankees in 2017.

His best season was with the Rays in 2019, when he hit .261/.363/.459 with 19 home runs and 63 RBIs.

The Mets have 24-year-old Mark Vientos as a right-handed DH option and 30-year-old DJ Stewart as a left-handed option.
