The families of Gabby Pettit and Brian Landry “reluctantly” reached a confidential legal settlement Wednesday, avoiding a civil trial later this year.
According to reports, lawyers for both sides confirmed that the legal battle ended after a mediation session.
The agreement comes a week after Landry’s parents admitted in a sworn affidavit that they were worried about the young woman when their son called her in a panic. .
Petito’s parents and in-laws filed a civil lawsuit in Florida against the Landries and their attorney, claiming they knew Gabby had been murdered but remained silent about the incident.
“After a long day of mediation, a confidential agreement has been reached…all parties reluctantly agreed to avoid further legal costs and protracted personal conflicts,” Petite family attorney Pat Riley said in a statement. He said the following: According to WFLA.
“Our hope is to close this chapter in our lives so we can move forward and continue to honor the legacy of our beautiful daughter Gabby.”
Landry’s attorney Steve Bertolino also said he and his client “look forward to resolving this matter.” CNN reported.
A trial was scheduled for May before Wednesday’s deal was signed.
Petito’s loved ones reported her 22-year-old daughter missing on September 11, 2021. It was 10 days after Landry, 23, had already arrived at her parents’ home in Florida.
The two were traveling across the country in a van when she disappeared in August 2021.
Authorities later announced that Landry had killed his fiancée and her strangled body was discovered on September 19 of that year. Landry later died by suicide.
In recently revealed legal documents, Landry’s parents say they fear for Petito’s welfare after their son calls in a panic to say she’s “missing.” He said he doesn’t think that means she was killed.
“he [Brian] He was restless and very agitated and told me that things had changed. “Gabby is gone,” he said, very distraught. “Everything happened so quickly,” said his father, Christopher Landry.
