Walt Disney World Employee Sends Police after Realizing Call to ‘Buy Tickets’ Is a Cry for Help

A Walt Disney World employee was doing a normal job when he realized something was very wrong while taking a customer’s phone order for tickets.

Imagine being under the surveillance of the very person who threatened your life while fearing for your safety. What if I can’t report it to the police?

When a Pennsylvania woman needed help after being assaulted, she called “the most magical place on Earth.” Walt Disney World employees answered the call to “work as if you were working for the Lord.” (Colossians 3:23)

By pretending to order tickets, the woman was able to connect with someone who recognized the crisis and intervened. According to Northern York County Regional Police, a sympathetic anonymous Disney employee reported hearing a woman yelling “get away from me” and “get away from me.”

The charity work of a good Samaritan spurred theme park employees into action. She immediately asked her three questions, which were answered with a “yes” or “no”, so that women in danger could disclose their need for rescue without risking further provocation.

Eager to do more than just sell tickets, the employee asked the Pennsylvania woman if the call was really for booking a vacation. The woman answered, “No.” The ticket reservation agent immediately checked on her situation by asking if anyone had hurt her. And whether she should send the police right away.

The woman answered “yes” to both questions, and the employee was concerned about the speedy police response.

Thanks to the quick thinking of Walt Disney World employees, police were able to thwart the attack. The woman told authorities the incident happened during an argument with her boyfriend, Wayne Shifflett, she said.

The woman told police that Wayne slapped her, grabbed her by the throat and threatened to kill her. Police arrested Wayne and charged him with strangulation, intimidation, assault and harassment.

Because this thoughtful Disney employee cared more about others than selling tickets and asked for the woman’s help, the assaulted woman was able to receive protection and rescue in a time of need.

This is a beautiful example of a brave choice amidst a busy schedule at Disney.
