Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Thursday went after New York judge Arthur Engoron for his “removal” of last week’s $355 million corporate fraud verdict against former President Trump. demanded.
Engoron ruled that Trump and his companies committed business fraud by manipulating asset values, including inflating the value of his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.
President Trump claims the property is worth more than $1 billion, but Engoron agreed that Palm Beach’s appraised value is between $18 million and $27 million.
“Judge Engoron should be stripped and thrown out, he is a disgrace!!” Green I wrote to Xthe platform formerly known as Twitter.
Greene reposted a news clipping from 1981 when the property, formerly the Post mansion, was listed for sale for $20 million.
“In 1981, Mar-a-Lago was just a house, but now it’s one of the most exclusive social clubs in the world,” she continued. “Mar-a-Lago is now worth more than the ridiculous verdict he handed down against President Trump!”
Mr. Engoron denied claims that he personally determined that Mar-a-Lago’s value was significantly lower than Mr. Trump believed, noting that he instead relied on local real estate appraisers. Trump’s allies have exploited the clubs’ differing values to attack the judge, alleging political bias.
“Please, members of the press, stop saying I valued it at $18 million.” Engoron said At the opening of the trial date in October last year.
Trump denies wrongdoing and has vowed to appeal.
The ruling against him prohibits him from operating a business in New York for three years. Trump’s lawyers on Wednesday requested that the judgment be put on hold for 30 days to give him more time to pay the judgment.
