An underground plastic surgeon who ran an illegal beauty clinic out of a Bronx apartment was sentenced to state prison Thursday for killing one woman and injuring another after performing a botched butt lift.
Whaleska Castillo, 49, of the Bronx, is charged with killing a 48-year-old woman with a lethal silicone injection in 2018 and causing serious injuries to a 39-year-old woman that required surgery. He was sentenced to eight years in prison. The prosecutor announced.
“The defendant illegally injected the victim with a silicone substance for cosmetic purposes,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement. “Sadly, the victim died from the injection.
“The defendant also performed dangerous cosmetic surgery on another woman that left her with significant pain,” Clark said. “We hope these incidents serve as a warning to the public not to undergo unauthorized procedures that could seriously threaten their health or even lead to death.”
Castillo already had a criminal record for unsuccessful cosmetic surgery. She was arrested in 2011 for performing illegal boob and booty jobs for up to $1,500 each in her Mt Eden apartment using suspicious silicone she received in the mail from a friend in her native Dominican Republic. Ta. .
She was sentenced to nearly a year in prison in 2012 for performing black market plastic surgery, and was detained for another nine months in 2014 for performing the surgery while free on supervised release.
Prosecutors said Castillo did it again in February 2018 when he injected Marisol King with suspicious silicone, leaving her with a massive infection and severe pain in her thighs and buttocks. .
On June 17, 2018, an unlicensed plastic surgeon injected Lesbia Ayala in another illegal surgery, this time with fatal results.
Ayala died of systemic silicone embolism syndrome, according to the DA’s office.
Mr. Castillo was arrested in 2019 and charged with manslaughter and assault, pled guilty to both counts on December 18, and was sentenced in Bronx Supreme Court on Thursday.
Prosecutors said she was sentenced to four to eight years in prison for manslaughter and three years in prison for assault, with both sentences to run concurrently.
