Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.), who has announced a long-term primary challenge to President Biden, said Thursday that he is. open to being on A unity ticket with Republican presidential primary candidate Nikki Haley.
“If this ends up being the case, I think Ambassador Haley and I should have a conversation,” Phillips said in an interview Thursday on Newstalk 830 WCCO in Minneapolis.
“If Donald Trump wins this November, Americans who oppose him will not be able to celebrate, encourage, and inspire alternatives that can actually win and lead our country in the direction that our people want,” Phillips said. I think we should.” Everyone should keep an open mind and heart about it, including me. ”
“I hope Nikki Haley does that, restores faith in our government, and most importantly, shows the world that America can work together to restore our extraordinary nation. In particular, I think America would do very well if we had some kind of bipartisan ticket that we could show the world, “we’re a brand around the world,” Phillips said.
The Minnesota Democratic Party has launched a campaign against Biden centered on the president’s age, arguing that the stakes are too great for the incumbent to lose in November. Phillips has repeatedly argued that Democrats should nominate someone else to improve their chances.
But Mr. Phillips gained little support in his candidacy and was easily defeated by Mr. Biden in the South Carolina primary.
Haley appears to have little chance of overtaking Trump in the Republican primary, but like Phillips, she has criticized Biden as the party’s front-runner while advocating for a new generation of American leaders.
Speaking ahead of the Republican primary in her home state of South Carolina this week, Haley criticized Biden and Trump’s age and mental strength, calling them “at risk for dementia” and calling them “dividers.” He said that.
“Trump and Biden are two old men who are only getting older. Nearly 60% of Americans say Trump and Biden are both too old to be president. Because they are. ,” Haley said.
“Joe Biden has done more damage to himself than any Republican before him,” she said. “Democrats are weakening with Biden’s coronation. Republicans will grow stronger through intense competition.”
