AT&T Service Restored Following Massive Nationwide Cell Outage

AT&T on Thursday announced that cell phone service has been restored after an outage that affected thousands of cell phone users across the United States.

“Some customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning,” AT&T said in a statement Thursday. “Our network team took immediate action and so far three-quarters of our network has been restored. We are working as quickly as possible to restore service to our remaining customers.”

according to fox newsIn , a power outage caused multiple iPhones to go into emergency SOS mode, leaving users unable to make calls, send text messages, or use cellular data. The iPhone’s SOS mode is activated when your phone loses connectivity. This means users can only make her SOS calls or send text messages to emergency services.

As of Thursday night, the phone company announced that all service to affected users had been restored.

“We offer our sincere apologies to them. Maintaining connections with our customers remains our top priority and we are taking steps to ensure they never experience this again in the future.”

In a subsequent update, AT&T explained that the outage was not caused by a cyberattack, but instead occurred “by the incorrect application and execution of processes used in extending the network.”

The telco added that it “continues to assess today’s disruptions to ensure we continue to provide our customers with the service they deserve.”

During the stop, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio warned that the incident pales in comparison to what a potential Chinese cyberattack could look like.
