An English professional footballer will spend a year in prison in his home country of Belgium.
Elias, chairman of Queens Park Rangers in the English Football League Championship, has been sentenced to one year in prison for breaking a man’s skull with a stone.
The assault occurred during an argument while kayaking in Belgium and France. Chair attacked a truck driver and was ordered to pay nearly 16,000 euros ($17,000).

While they were attempting to return to France, a “massive clash between the travelers” occurred.
The driver, known only as Neils T in court documents, lost consciousness and is still suffering from his injuries, according to the Guardian.
Two others, including the chairman’s brother, were also found guilty of the attack, with sentences ranging from six to 12 months in prison.
The Chancellor is expected to appeal the verdict, and his team will allow him to play while the appeal process takes place.

“The club is in regular contact with President Ilias’ legal team regarding the alleged assault against him,” the president’s team said in a statement. “The legal proceedings have not yet been concluded. As such, the club will not be commenting further at this stage.”
It is unclear whether the Chancellor will wear the suit for Rangers’ game against Rotherham United on Saturday.
The 26-year-old chairman also plays for the Moroccan national team and participated in the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The team advanced to the semifinals, but lost to France. In the end France lost to Argentina in an epic final.
