Aaliyah Lykins charges in newborn’s death after falling alseep breastfeeding

A 21-year-old mother was recently charged after her baby girl died in the bed she shared in Indiana last October. Officials say this is the second time in four years that a newborn baby has died while sleeping in the same bed.

According to court documents, Muncie resident Aaliyah Lykins told first responders on Oct. 9, 2023, “Oh, here we go again,” after the young mother fell asleep while breastfeeding her two-week-old child. He is said to have said, “I’ve lost it.” She got it from a local retailer.

Her daughter, Adilynn Lykins, was tragically pronounced dead at the hospital after resuscitation efforts failed.

About four years ago, Lykins’ 7-week-old son, Aiden Lykins, died after sleeping in the bed with the baby, the affidavit states. Star Press reported.

She allegedly admitted to police in 2020 that she “shouldn’t have put Aiden in bed with me and I knew it was wrong.”

Lykins was not charged with any crimes stemming from the earlier incident, but this month he was charged with reckless homicide and neglect of a dependent, both felonies, the newspaper reported.

The Star Press reports that Lykins has other arrests under the same law that are still pending in court, including arrests for assault causing bodily harm to a pregnant woman, domestic assault with a deadly weapon, and domestic assault resulting in serious bodily injury. causing a conflict.
