Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini has opened up about his “tumultuous relationship” and breakup with girlfriend Melissa Satta.
Berrettini confirmed that he is no longer dating Italian model and TV personality Satta, after they announced their relationship in January 2023. According to The Sun.
“Melissa Satta and I are no longer together,” Berrettini told The Sun. “What I can say is that we have a beautiful, passionate relationship and we respect each other very much. I won’t say any more, I don’t like to share too much of my personal life. ”
Berrettini, 27, declined to say exactly when the former couple broke up or why.
“Nothing special happened,” said the 2021 Wimbledon finalist. “Despite all the difficulties of the case, I must thank her for this period in which we lived together so intensely.”
Satta, 38, has yet to speak publicly about the breakup.
Berrettini and Satta met through mutual friends in Miami. The two announced their relationship in January 2023.
A few months later, Satta revealed that she faced “bullying and sexism” online for several months because of her relationship with Berrettini.
At the time, Ms. Satta hit back at those who blamed her for Berrettini’s absence from the international tennis tournament in Rome in May due to an abdominal injury.
Fans seemed to have come up with an unsubstantiated theory that Berrettini injured herself from having too much sex.
“I get a lot of messages about insults, bullying and sexism.” Satta told Vanity Fair. “I have chosen to be a public figure and I accept putting myself out there on social media, but I’m just trying to have romantic relationships with other people. I just want to be happy too. is.”
Satta recalled facing similar criticism during her 10-year marriage to her ex-husband, German soccer player Kevin-Prince Boateng.
“Once, my ex-husband had pubodynia (chronic groin lesion). There too they attacked me saying we had too much sex and that was the cause of his physical problems. “I did,” said Satta, who shares a 9-year-old son, Maddox Prince, with Boateng.
according to Sun, Satta said in 2012 that Boateng “had sex seven to 10 times a week, which caused frequent injuries.”
