An illegal Salvadoran immigrant has been arrested in connection with the murder of a toddler in Langley Park, Maryland, earlier this month, Prince George’s County police announced Tuesday night.
Nilson Trejo-Granados, 25, is the fifth suspect arrested in the murder of 2-year-old Jeremy Pou Caceres, authorities said. Police said Trejo-Granados was charged with first- and second-degree murder. He remains in police custody without bail.
James Covington, a spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Baltimore, confirmed to Fox News that Trejo-Granados is an illegal Salvadoran citizen.
On November 7, 2022, a Justice Department immigration judge in Newark, New Jersey ordered Mr. Trejo-Granados’ expulsion from the United States.

According to ICE records obtained by fox 5The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested Trejo-Granados on March 21, 2023 and charged him with theft.
While these charges are pending, ICE released the Trejo Granados immigration detainer to the Montgomery County Detention Center on March 22, 2023. However, authorities said the MCDC refused to confer detainee honors and Trejo-Granados was released by the MCDC on March 27, 2023.
MCPD arrested Trejo-Granados on September 26, 2023, and again charged him with theft, obstruction, and attempted obstruction.
ICE then issued another immigration detention on September 27, 2023 to the MCDC on Trejo Granados Island. However, MCDC released Trejo-Granados from custody again on October 12, 2023.

A day after his latest arrest was announced, ERO Baltimore ordered Trejo Granados to immigration detention at the Prince George’s County Detention Center in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
On February 8, detectives working in the area heard gunshots and attempted to locate the crime scene. Detectives found Poo Caceres suffering from gunshot wounds. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later. The infant’s mother was also shot, but her injuries were not life-threatening.

Since the murders, police have identified and arrested four suspects in Maryland, including a 15-year-old male from Takoma Park and a 16-year-old male from Hyattsville. Both are charged as an adult. Homicide detectives also arrested Israel Fuentes Jr., 33, of Lewisdale, and Johnny Alejandro Turcios, 28, of Lewisdale.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that two groups of men engaged in a gunfight near where the victim and her mother were walking. Investigators determined the two victims were not the intended targets.
