What’s going on in Lubbock, Texas?
A flagrant foul by the Longhorns angered Red Raiders fans during a Texas-Texas Tech rivalry game Tuesday night at United Supermarket Arena, forcing head coach Grant McCasland to intervene. It was done.
Chaos ensued as Texas, which beat Texas Tech 81-69, missed a shot and the ball bounced near the scorer’s table and ended up near the sideline.
Darrion Williams of the Red Raiders sprinted toward the ball and appeared to reach it first, but Brock Cunningham shoulder-checked his opponent in a move similar to a hockey enforcer, and the Texas Tech side caused a strong reaction.
Tensions reached a crescendo and both teams had to be separated, but Cunningham seemed surprised that he was called for a foul.
Cunningham waved his arms mockingly at the Texas Tech crowd as boos rained down on him, eventually showering him with bottles and other items as he made his way to a bench on the road.
Cunningham was seen yelling at the opponent’s bench, but was ultimately given a bad second rating and was ejected from the game.
However, fans continued to throw bottles onto the floor, prompting Texas Tech to provide administrative guidance to Texas Tech regarding debris falling on the playing surface.
This prompted the Red Raiders’ McCasland to pick up the microphone and plead with the outraged public to stop the madness.
“Listen guys, anything thrown on the floor is a technical foul,” he said. “Listen, that has to stop. There’s nothing else on the floor. You know what I mean?”
There was a mix of boos and cheers, but the situation eventually came to an end as Texas emerged victorious after a chaotic second half.

Cunningham had nine points and four rebounds before being ejected from the game.
