Lara Trump officially announced her candidacy for co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) on Wednesday.

Her announcement came days after current RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel announced she would resign on March 8 after the Super Tuesday primaries. Trump is one of several supporters of former President Donald Trump taking over key roles at the RNC.

“I am proud to have the support of my father-in-law and 45th president, Donald J. I understand that.”

“I look forward to connecting with you, the RNC membership, over the next few days and hopefully getting your vote,” she added.

The former president also endorsed North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley to replace McDaniel as RNC chairman and senior adviser Chris LaCivita as chief operating officer.

“We must vote the harvest legally everywhere we can,” she said at a campaign rally last week.

McDaniel formally announced his plans to step down Monday, saying it is traditional for presidential candidates to make changes.

“It has been the honor and privilege of my life to elect the Republican Party and grow the party for seven years as Chairman of the Republican National Committee,” McDaniel said in a statement. “I have decided to step down to allow candidates to choose the chair of their choice at spring training in Houston on March 8th. It was my intention to honor that tradition.” ”
