Progressive group presses Republicans to drop Biden impeachment inquiry

Democratic-leaning outside groups are pressuring House Republicans to dismiss President Biden’s impeachment inquiry with new ads targeting House Republicans running for re-election in battleground districts.

The Congressional Integrity Project (CIP), launched in 2020, also accused the Republican conference of impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas based on “zero evidence,” rejecting the Senate-passed border agreement, and Trump’s He is “ignoring” the former president. crime. ”

“MAGA House Republicans continue to hit new lows,” the narrator says in the ad. “They impeached the Secretary of Homeland Security in a partisan political process based on no evidence whatsoever. None. They impeached President Biden over blatant lies by a convicted felon and Russian assets. I keep trying.”

The ad comes after informant Alexander Smirnov was arrested earlier this month on charges of lying to the FBI. Mr. Smirnov’s claims about the Biden family were at the center of House Republicans’ investigation of the president.

The 49-second ad criticizes House Republicans for failing to pass a bipartisan agreement that included aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, as well as border security provisions that took months to negotiate.

“On the one hand, they rejected a bipartisan border deal that would have addressed the crisis and brought the government to the brink of another shutdown,” the ad says.

“And they continue to ignore the criminal charges of former President Donald Trump, who has been impeached twice and indicted four times. Why are they doing this? It all hits President Biden. Is it to bring Donald Trump back to power in 2024?”

The group confirmed to The Hill that the ad is part of an ongoing seven-figure campaign targeting vulnerable House Republicans. It will be held for two weeks.

The ads will run in the Washington, D.C., market and in the battleground districts of 17 House Republicans. The affected members are Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.), Rep. Lori Chavez Delemer (R-Ore.), Rep. Juan Siscomani (R-Ariz.), and Rep. Anthony D’Esposito (R-New York). ), Congressman John Duarte (Republican). -California), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pennsylvania), Mike Garcia (R-Calif.), Tom Keene Jr. (R.N.J.), Jen Quiggans (R-Va.), Young. Kim (R-Calif.)), Nick Larota (RN.Y.), Mike Lawler (RN.Y.), Mark Molinaro (RN.Y.), David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) , Michelle Steele (R-Calif.), David Valadao (R-Calif.) and Brandon Williams (New York).

The group also deployed a mobile billboard truck displaying portions of the 49-second ad that circled the House office building where Hunter Biden was testifying Wednesday morning. News headlines detail the challenges House Republicans faced during their investigation into Biden and his family.
