Ahead of the Cognizant Classic, the first Florida event of the 2024 PGA Tour season, Camilo Villegas has been elected as the new Chairman of the Player Advisory Committee.
The vote fell between Villegas and Kevin Streelman, with the former receiving more votes. Villegas is also the winner of this event, having won what was then called the Honda Classic in 2010, so it’s no surprise that it would be announced this week.
The longtime veteran will serve as chairman for the remainder of 2024 before beginning a three-year term. Villegas will replace Jordan Spieth as one of the Player Directors on the PGA Tour’s Policy Committee, effective January 1, 2025.
Five-time PGA Tour champion Camilo Villegas has been named chairman of the PGA Tour Player Advisory Council.

Spieth had only recently taken on the role after Rory McIlroy resigned from the board.
Villegas addressed the media on Wednesday and detailed his enthusiasm for the position.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” Villegas said. “The PGA is a very important institution to me and my family. I want to know what’s going on. [on] Adding my two cents behind the scenes and as an analyst. There’s a lot to learn. On behalf of our players and the PGA Tour, I will do everything in my power to make the decision that is most logical for the game of golf. ”
The 42-year-old joined the PGA Tour in 2006. In the 2008 FedEx Cup he won the Tour Championship with BMW and his first two wins in consecutive weeks.
His fifth and final PGA Tour victory came at last year’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship, ending a drought that had lasted more than nine years. Villegas became the first Colombian player to play on an international Presidents Cup team in 2009 and served as Trevor Immelman’s captain’s assistant in 2022.
