One of the best promotions in all of Major League Baseball is coming to an end, and Philadelphia Phillies fans aren’t happy about it.
$1 Hot Dog Night at Citizens Bank Park in South Philadelphia has been a staple for 27 years as one of the best promotions in the majors.
However, the Phillies announced Thursday that they are ending the promotion.
The team will replace him with a 1-2 contract for two home games this season in April.

In official language, the decision was “based on the organization’s continued commitment to providing a positive experience for all fans in attendance.” However, the unofficial reason may be due to what happened at last year’s Dollar Dog Night.
During a game against the Miami Marlins on April 11, a food fight broke out in the stands at The Bank. Fans fired dollar dogs at each other, some landing on the field. Multiple fans were released in several sections of the park.

“It wasn’t just a throw,” Phillies senior vice president of ticket operations and projects John Webber told The Associated Press. “This was the concourse, and there were a lot of people in the same X number of stands for him. But obviously, the throw was a bit of a turning point.”
Weber added that the promotion was always designed to be a “more family-friendly” deal and started when the Phillies played games at Veterans Stadium. This promotion was offered on weekdays at the beginning of the season in April-May and was aimed at gaining more fans.
The Phillies also weren’t as successful then as they are now, reaching the World Series two seasons ago and advancing to the National League Championship Series in 2023.

Phillies fans will have to settle for a 2-for-1 deal for games against the Cincinnati Reds on April 2nd and against the Colorado Rockies on April 16th.
Fans are already criticizing the decision on social media.
Like other teams in the league, the Texas Rangers host Dollar Dog Night every Wednesday home game at Globe Life Field. The Minnesota Twins do the same thing every Tuesday home game.
