Greene (R-Tenn.) reversed her previous decision to leave Congress after petitions from 45 parties.th The president, his predecessor, Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), and other colleagues who called on him to return.
“Mark Greene had many options because of his political talent and the great job he has done as a member of Congress, but given his great job as chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, I think he is I hope to run for re-election to the “U.S. House of Representatives,” President Trump posted on Truth Social Thursday.
“If he does that, he has my full and total support!” Trump continued.
Shortly after Republican officials announced the reversal, they released a statement about their decision to run again.
“My strong desire was to leave Congress at the end of this year, but since my announcement I have received countless calls from constituents, colleagues, and President Trump urging me to reconsider. It reminded me of General MacArthur’s words, “Duty, Honor, Country.” “I am reminded that I have a duty to my country,” Green said in a statement.
“I’m going to run for re-election so I can be here on the first day of next year and help President Trump end this border crisis once and for all,” he added.
The day after the impeachment vote against Secretary of State Alejandro Mayorkas, Greene announced that she would retire at the end of her term, citing frustration with the gridlock and chaos in Congress.
“Our country, and our Congress, is broken beyond most means of repair. We have realized that our fight is against Washington, not here within Washington,” he said in 2018. Green, who was first elected, said at the time.
Other House Republicans who have announced retirement plans include Energy and Commerce Committee Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Washington) and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Patrick McHenry (R-North Carolina). and House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Kay Granger (R-Texas). ).
