In July, police in Washington, D.C., arrested a 15-year-old boy who killed an Afghan translator who worked as a rideshare driver after fleeing the country in 2021.
Nasrat Ahmad Yar, 31, was shot and killed while driving a Lyft in the Washington, D.C., area on July 3.
The Metropolitan Police Department announced at a press conference Friday that an unidentified 15-year-old male has been charged with first-degree murder while armed.
Yar served as an interpreter for U.S. Army Special Forces in Afghanistan. He fled the country with his wife and four children in 2021 after the Afghan government was overthrown by the Taliban.

Leslie Parsons, deputy director of the Metropolitan Police’s investigation bureau, said investigators were “thoroughly examining” the evidence in order to bring the perpetrators to justice.
He said Yar was “working hard to provide for his family,” but when he dropped off a passenger, he was approached by suspects who appeared to be trying to steal his car, and one of the suspects shot and killed him. It is said that he did.
Four people were captured on an outdoor Nest camera running from the scene after the shooting. Parsons said the video was “helpful” in identifying the 15-year-old suspect, who was arrested Friday morning.
“The reckless actions of these teens took the life of a man and destroyed a family just beginning their journey in this country,” Parson said. Investigators are still searching for other suspects.

Yar was gunned down in Washington, D.C., just after midnight as he finished a late night driving shift for the ride-sharing company Lyft.
“Our hearts are with Mr. Nasrat’s loved ones as they face this unspeakable tragedy,” a Lyft spokesperson told FOX News Digital at the time. “We have reached out to his family to offer support and are in contact with law enforcement to assist with the investigation.”
