Dear Abby: Husband keeps dragging his feet on filing our taxes, costing us penalties – MLive.com

Dear Abby: My husband and I have been married for 46 years. For the past five years, he has deferred paying our income taxes to the point where we are charged penalties. He continues to say he’s going to work on it, but everything else takes precedence.

I gathered all the necessary documents and printed out my tax worksheet. My husband runs his own small business, which complicates things. I hate that this is hanging over her head. I told him I wouldn’t go on the planned camping trip if this wasn’t done in advance, and I’m going to comply. I can’t get him to give me a straight answer as to why he keeps doing this. It’s ruining our wonderful marriage. –Florida’s money problems

Dear money worries: Look for a certified public accountant to take over this task. Then give your husband a deadline to file his taxes, and if he misses the deadline, submit the necessary information to your CPA. A CPA may be able to find something advantageous for you.
