It’s all real…kind of real. And that’s what Joe is trying to figure out. Has she lost her mind? Is she psychotic? Is she a huge conspiracy? That’s the great thing about Peter Harness’s writing. He does not give us easy solutions or truths. I feel like I’m looking into a broken mirror. And I like watching movies and shows that have that kind of complexity. Because they don’t treat me like I’m stupid.
You’re known for going very deep into your characters.Did something like that happen to Joe? sign?
It was a strange thing, and when I first read the script, I was almost scared. The character was very familiar to me. And being an astronaut has some similarities to acting. He lives a nomadic life, constantly taking on new assignments, learning new skills, and constantly changing. Also for me, a working mom who loves her job…I leave, say goodbye, go shoot in the middle of nowhere, and then come back. And you try your best to reunite with your child, but he has always changed, and I have changed too. So I dug deep into myself and tried to tolerate my own doubts and doubts. How did you respond to that?
It’s a constant battle and internal conflict. My son is everything to me, but I can’t just stay home and be a mother. I would go crazy if I did that. That’s not me. And I want to live by example. Of course it was major. This was my second time in LA and Ridley was really nice and polite and really cool. he said: “I love you, dude. I love your work. I don’t want you to change, I want you to be yourself.”
Have you always wanted to break into Hollywood films?
It’s hard to explain because I grew up on this farm and there was no television for many years. There was no radio or newspaper. There was no information coming in, just me sitting in my pickup truck playing a CD. I had four CDs by Bruce Springsteen, Tracy Chapman, Dolly Parton, and a weird Icelandic band called KK. So when I was a kid I was obsessed with Bruce Springsteen and dreamed of connecting with the world.
