Despite the Biden administration’s aim for a Ramadan truce in Gaza, leaders of major Palestinian terrorist organizations have warned Arab countries and the Islamic world to engage in “terrorism” during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. I called on them to do so.
jerusalem post office report Sunday:
Palestinian Islamic Jihad has called for Ramadan to be a “month of terror” and is seeking to escalate attacks in the West Bank and Gaza. Abu Hamza, a spokesman for PIJ’s al-Quds Brigades, said in a recent speech that he hopes Arab countries and pro-Iranian groups in the region remain “united” on various arenas and fronts against Israel. Stated.
This is the latest sign that the terror group plans to escalate fighting over the next month. Hamza’s remarks were reported by Beirut-based Al Mayadeen News Channel. The channel is pro-Iranian and frequently covers attacks by Hamas and Hezbollah.
…
The terror group’s comments are also linked to statements by Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who called for increased fighting during Ramadan.
Ramadan is scheduled to begin on March 10, the new moon that heralds the arrival of the new moon in the lunar calendar.
Arab and Islamic countries have fought many wars during Ramadan, most notably during the Yom Kippur War in 1973, when Egyptian soldiers broke their fast to cross the Suez Canal.
But the Biden administration has treated Ramadan with extreme caution, describing it as a traditional time of peace and hoping to reach a hostage release deal before Ramadan begins.
Last week, White House National Security Press Secretary John Kirby said: exchange With reporters at the White House:
Q: Thank you very much, John. We’ll start with Israel and then move on to Ukraine. You just said that in terms of a ceasefire, it’s not about trying to delay the time until Ramadan. But how concerned is the administration about the potential for escalation during the holy month of Ramadan and how U.S.-backed forces could be seen as attacking Muslims? I wonder if there is…
Mr. KIRBY: We are, of course, conscious of the sensitivities surrounding the month of Ramadan and its spiritual significance for the Islamic world. Of course we understand that.
What we don’t want, what we hope is that this temporary ceasefire happens as soon as possible. And again, if we can get an agreement for a few weeks, we’ll be fine during Ramadan anyway.
The clock we are worried about is a hostage. We can only assume that they are being held in abominable conditions, their health is at risk and their lives are at risk. We want to eliminate them as quickly as possible.
Israeli War Cabinet Secretary Benny Gantz said Ramadan was the deadline for the hostage deal and warned that if Hamas did not agree to a deal, Israel would invade Rafah, a town in southern Gaza near the Egyptian border.
President Joe Biden recently Appeared The Whites backtracked on their promise to reach a hostage agreement by Monday, March 4, and the Whites said they may not actually reach an agreement before Ramadan.
