Senior Day couldn’t have been any better for Caitlin Clark, as she set the NCAA’s all-time scoring record in Division I college basketball with the Iowa Hawkeyes’ 93-83 win over Ohio State.

Clark sank two free throws in the final minutes of the first half, breaking Pete Maravich’s previous record of 3,617 points at LSU. She entered the game needing 18 points, but she got them all by making a free throw for a technical foul in the first half.

Clark had 35 points, nine assists and six rebounds in the final regular season game at home.

After the record-setting performance, Clark and other Hawkeyes senior teammates Gabby Marshall, Sharon Goodman, Molly Davis and Kate Martin were honored for their contributions over the years.

When asked how the journey has been so far, Clark told the crowd, “When I look back on the last four years, I’m just so grateful.”

Veteran journalist Holly Rowe, who moderated the Senior Day postgame ceremony, said that despite Clark’s incredible performance, which left his mark on college basketball history, Clark always yelled at his teammates in interviews over the years. I pointed out that she was screaming.

For Clark, it’s not something that’s forced. Her humble nature comes out naturally.

“I think it’s a no-brainer,” she said about showing love to her teammates. “They’re my best friends and it’s not a pretense. They have my back and do a lot of the dirty work for me to have fun and take crazy shots. He’s my best friend outside.”

Clark liked how the Hawkeyes “came out and dominated” against a Buckeyes team that was ranked No. 2 in the nation on Senior Day and beat No. 6 Iowa earlier this season.

“We played with a lot of energy,” she said. “…I’m just proud of our girls. Our five seniors have been together for a long time and we wanted to get them out on their home court. ”

“I was soaking it all in,” Clark said of the final home regular-season game. However, up to two more of his games could be at home this month, as the top teams in the NCAA Tournament will host games.

“It’s going to be a little less bitter,” Clark said. “…I might not get it for a little while longer.”

While the ceremony was a great way to honor the Hawkeyes, a group led by Clark that changed college basketball not only in Des Moines but across the country, they know the work is far from done.

The Hawkeyes will need Clark to continue racking up points toward his all-time record in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament before the NCAA Tournament begins. Her performance will be crucial if Iowa State is to return to the national championship after losing to the LSU Tigers last season.
