The road to the NCAA Men’s Final Four begins Monday night.
At the Atlantic Sun Conference.
ASUN is the first of 32 men’s conference tournaments scheduled to begin this month, with the tournament beginning with two games Monday night. No. 9 Kennesaw State will play No. 10 Jacksonville on Eastern Kentucky’s campus, with the winner advancing to play Eastern Kentucky, the ASUN’s top-seeded team, on Tuesday.
At the same time, No. 7 Florida Gulf Coast will play No. 8 Queens on the Stetson campus. The second-seeded Stetson Hatters will play the winner of that game Tuesday night.
ASUN is likely to be a one-bid conference, so even if they lose in the ASUN conference tournament, the top-seeded EKU Colonels could still advance to the NCAA men’s tournament. Queen’s is in its first season after moving from Division II to Division I, so it will not qualify for the NCAA Men’s Tournament. If Queens, who finished with an overall record of 13 wins and 18 losses, somehow wins the ASUN tournament, EKU will take it.
The Colonels sit atop the ASUN standings with an overall record of 17-13 and a conference record of 12-4. However, EKU entered the ASUN Tournament limping after losing its last two games, losing by 4 points to Austin Peay on February 28th and losing by 14 points to Lipscomb, the No. 3 seed in the ASUN Tournament, on Friday. I’m here.
Another interesting feature of the ASUN tournament? All rounds are reseeded in the semi-finals. There, the remaining top seed will face off against the remaining bottom seed in one of his matches, and the other two teams will face off in the other match.
