After 13 years in the NFL, Philadelphia Eagles center fielder Jason Kelce is retiring from his cleats.
The face of the Philadelphia Eagles announced his retirement during a press conference Monday, ending one of the most unlikely careers in NFL history. When he entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick out of Cincinnati, there was no reason for the 265-pound center who played in college to become a multi-year starter in the NFL. But Kelce never missed a game and continued to revolutionize the sport and the way center play is evaluated. His ability to pull and reach the second level earned him six first-team All-Pro selections, tied with Dermonty Dawson for the most by a modern-day center.
More than that, Kelce is one of the greatest players in Philadelphia Eagles history. He became the face of the team and helped them win the Super Bowl, one of the most improbable upsets in NFL history. The fact that a center can be the face of a team makes the jerseys fans wear incredibly special. His costumed Super Bowl speech is one of the most iconic in Philadelphia sports.
Happy Roads, Jason Kelce. The NFL won’t be the same without him.
