Usually, when Lauren Chen reviews a movie, she can’t help but be critical of the political propaganda and virtue promotion that has come to define modern cinema.
But “Dune Part 2” is an outlier in that “it’s a good movie,” Lauren says.
“In fact, this is one of the best-made movies I’ve seen in a long time. It’s funny. This movie is beautifully made and acted,” she said, adding that she loved the film. He added that the “care and dedication and ingenuity and attention to detail” that went into it is “something you don’t see very often in Hollywood these days.”
“In this day and age where it seems like every month…Disney tries to shove a new Marvel movie down our throats, it takes a filmmaker like Denis Villeneuve to take the time to make something just as good.” It’s really nice to see them investing resources.” That could be the case. ”
His performance also impressed her.
Timothée Chalamet, who plays the protagonist Paul Atreides, is “quickly becoming one of my favorite actors,” Lauren says, adding, “In Part 2, he’s given material to really shine, and I think he’s going to have a really good time.” He has definitely stepped up to become one of the best actors.” Challenge. ”
Lauren added that Austin Butler, who plays Feyed-Rauta Harkonnen, was also “outstanding” with his performance, but “unsettling in a good way.”
Florence Pugh, who played a small role as Princess Irulan, was still “fantastic” despite having less screen time.
The only actors who didn’t give Lauren hope were Chani, played by Zendaya, and Emperor Shaddam IV, played by Christopher Walken.
Zendaya’s performance was “not breathtaking,” while Walken’s was “not breathtaking.”[didn’t] It’s perfect for this movie,” she says.
But overall the acting and cast were strong.
However, the film was not without its flaws.
“There are some pacing issues,” Lauren said, adding that “it probably takes too long to Paul lounging in the desert,” which was the film’s “low point.”
Lauren acknowledged that Dune was “a book that actually took place over a fairly long period of time,” but that the film adaptation had “a lot of inconsistencies in terms of the passage of time.”
“In certain scenes, it felt like time was moving too slowly… but in other cases, especially when action was involved, it felt like things were moving too fast,” she said. points out.
Regardless of the movie’s flaws, if you were to ask me, “Is Dune Part 2 worth checking out?” I’d say the answer is absolutely yes, and I’d even go see it in theaters. ”
