Former President Trump has won North Carolina’s Republican presidential primary, according to projections from Decision Desk Headquarters.
The front-runner for the Republican nomination will win most of the Tarheel State’s 74 delegates. Just over half will be allocated based on the results of each of North Carolina’s 13 congressional districts, and the rest will be allocated based on the candidates’ performance statewide.
Trump narrowly defeated Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in the state’s 2016 Republican primary, but received less than a majority of the vote. He won a landslide victory over a narrow opponent in the state in 2020.
Winners and losers in North Carolina have been decided by margins of just a few percentage points in the past several presidential elections, and it is likely to be a battleground state in November’s presidential election.
