Newly released body camera footage released earlier this year shows Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers making multiple attempts to apprehend a masked four-legged robber from a man’s home.
On Tuesday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department released body camera footage of the Jan. 9 home invasion.
The incident occurred around 4 a.m., when the homeowner woke up to loud noises, unwanted guests and the presence of a large raccoon.
“He knocked my TV off,” a man is heard telling officers as he enters the home. “Right now he’s just going back and forth.”

A police officer is seen walking around the man’s living room with a flashlight, revealing the path of destruction left behind by the creature.
“He’s a big son of a very nice partner,” the officer can be heard saying. “There’s a big raccoon here.”
In the corner of the room, surrounded by CDs and other items scattered throughout the room, a large raccoon can be seen shivering as police try to remove it from the house.

The raccoon was seen slowly approaching the animal before running away and climbing into a door that had just been closed by the homeowner.
Officers were then seen cornering the raccoon behind a refrigerator while they waited for raccoon trapping equipment to be brought into the home. However, the raccoon continues to resist and is seen climbing into the refrigerator and starting to do “pull-ups” on the molding of the two doorways.

Despite several attempts to negotiate with the suspect, the raccoon had to be removed from the home by IMPD officers. (Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department)
Despite the raccoon’s protests and violent hissing at the officers, the officers were eventually able to capture the raccoon and release it into the wild.
Troopers said the raccoon has not been charged with a crime.
