Tiger Woods returns to golf course, nearly sinks albatross in star-studded Florida event

Tiger Woods is back playing golf again.

He was paired with PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh at Seminole Golf Club on Monday. Events for professional membersWoods and Waugh shot 2-under 70s in the gross competition.

This puts them tied for 44th out of 78 teams, according to 5 Clubs Golf on X.

Woods and Waugh then tied for 33rd in a low-net race, signing with a 5-under 67. The USGA lists Waugh with a handicap index of 9.6 from Seminole Golf Club.

The event marked Woods’ first public appearance since withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational.

Brad Faxon said on Sirius XM’s PGA Tour Radio. [Woods] Playing for the Seminoles, he said he hit perfectly up the middle. ”

Even Woods Recorded a tap-in eagleFaxon said he came within an inch of the albatross on the par-5 15th hole.

Canada’s Mackenzie Hughes and Frank Edwards dominated the low-gross event, posting an 8-under 64 to win by one stroke.

Six teams tied for second place, two of which included PGA Tour Board of Directors members Jimmy Dunn and Ed Herlihy, who testified before the U.S. Senate last July.

At Lownet, Eric van Rooyen and John Pinkham won with a 10-under 62. Three teams, including Dunn and his partner Ryan Fox from New Zealand, scored 62 cars. However, after determining the winner based on a scorecard play-off, van Rooyen and Pinkham won.

Van Rooyen experienced quite the whirlwind 24 hours.

On Sunday at the Cognizant Classic, van Rooyen started the round with a flurry of birdies, finishing with six in a row. He made another one on the par-4 eighth, finishing with a 7-under 28 on the opening nine at PGA National. However, play was then canceled due to a three-hour and 30-minute delay due to bad weather.

Still, unlike the other competitors, Van Rooyen finished the round with a 7-under 64 and shot up the leaderboard to 14 under overall.

However, he faced a precarious situation. The final round of the Cognizant Classic continued into Monday morning, with Van Rooyen teeing it up at Seminole. If anyone at the Cognizant Classic had finished tied for first place with van Rooyen at 14 under, the South African would have been dragged off the golf course, withdrawn from the tournament, and returned to PGA National for the playoffs. It would be.

That didn’t happen, and Austin Eckrot won by three strokes. But at least Van Rooyen won the low net portion and took home the consolation prize.
