Tommy Fleetwood is still looking for his first PGA Tour win, but it won’t be available this week. To say the least, Fleetwood is not having a good time at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
In Friday’s second round, the British fighter struggled from the start. He had three bogeys in the first five holes, and things got worse from there.
Fleetwood hit the water on the par-5 sixth hole not once, not twice, but three times, scoring a 10.
Fleetwood hit his tee shot 318 yards to the right fairway.
However, his second shot went 212 yards. He took the drop and gained 182 yards on his fourth attempt. He made the same mistake again, forcing his second fall. Fleetwood repeated the motion, dropping his third pitch into the water.
The eighth shot left 202 yards to the green, and Fleetwood eventually cleared the water, leaving 24 feet to the green. 5 inches from the hole. He hit it beyond the hole, but placed the ball home on his 10th shot.
It was brutal and reminiscent of a famous scene from a beloved golf movie. tin cup.
Golf fans are familiar with the 1996 movie that saw Kevin Costner, aka Roy “Tin Cup” McAvoy, send countless balls into the water for a chance at the U.S. Open title.
The Ryder Cup veteran remains winless on the PGA Tour after a poor start to the round cost him his spot.
Fleetwood is ranked 12th in the world. For him to hit a double-digit card in the hole should remind fans that it can happen to anyone, and that even the pros are human after all.
He enjoyed success on the DP World Tour, recording seven wins. Most recently, Fleetwood won the Dubai Invitational. But things don’t seem to be going well in America.
