Vice President Kamala Harris declined to say whether President Joe Biden will participate in a general election debate with former President Donald Trump in an interview Friday with NBC News’ White House correspondent Peter Alexander. .
The full interview will be broadcast on “NBC Nightly News” on Friday.
Alexander said: Trump challenged the president to debate anytime, anywhere, anywhere. Will President Biden commit to debating Donald Trump?”
Harris said: “I haven’t talked to the president about that yet. But if you want to see a split screen to understand what’s at stake, here’s what I’ll tell you. On the other hand: On the other side of that split screen is a capable and principled Joe Biden who has achieved more than many presidents could have hoped for: infrastructure, climate change, health care. “We have a former president who said he would become a dictator. He said he would use the Justice Department as a weapon against his political opponents.”
She further added, “The split screen is crisp.”
Alexander said: “Should President Biden debate him based on your views?”
Harris said: “That is a choice. We will make a decision on this soon and will keep you informed.”
Alexander said, “Will you join us in the discussion?”
Harris said, “Peter, we just finished the State of the Union address, and I’m so excited about what we accomplished last night and the president.”
