Federal prosecutors have taken a closer look at some of the lavish spending of former Jacksonville Jaguars employee Amit Patel.

Patel is accused of embezzling an estimated $22 million from NFL franchises.

Federal investigators allege the large sums of money financed a “lavish lifestyle.” Patel has bought Tiger Woods’ putter and spent more than $78,000 on private air travel since 1996, according to recent court filings.

A $275,000 fee to Patel’s lawyer, Alex King, was paid with misappropriated funds, according to court filings. Mr. King claimed that as his client developed a gambling addiction and losses began to mount, he used the ill-gotten money to pay off debts.

King estimated that “99% of the misappropriated funds” were used to subsidize gambling losses. But authorities said Patel spent about $5 million on personal expenses.

According to documents, Patel transferred approximately $20 million to FanDuel and another $1 million to DraftKings. Patel is believed to have spent nearly $600,000 on various Apple products, and more than $40,000 at Amazon and Best Buy.

He also transferred $5 million from his FanDuel and DraftKings accounts to other personal accounts, the filing said.

Dr. King’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

The Jaguars fired Patel in early 2023, but he is accused of continuing to use stolen money after he was fired.

Purchases worth more than $9,000 from the Jaguars, the team’s pro shop, Stadium Club and Stadium were also listed in Patel’s transactions.

Patel pleaded guilty in December in U.S. District Court to felony counts of wire fraud and illegal financial transactions, which could have resulted in up to 30 years in prison and fines. He is scheduled to be sentenced next week.
