Russell Wilson is probably the hottest name on the free agent market right now, but he’s not technically a free agent yet and the Denver Broncos won’t have him available until the start of the league’s new year on March 13th. need to be released.

However, the team has already announced its intentions and granted Wilson permission to meet with the team before the free agency tampering period begins next week.

One of the Broncos’ rivals in the AFC West is also said to be interested in meeting with him.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Las Vegas Raiders “could” invite Wilson to a meeting.

This came after the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants had or set up talks with Wilson. The Super Bowl-winning quarterback was spotted at Newark International Airport earlier this week before heading to a meeting with the Steelers.

The Raiders would be a logical team to be interested in Wilson’s services, one of which is the expected release of Jimmy Garoppolo when the league’s new year begins.

Russell Wilson meets with surprise team ahead of Steelers visit: Report

Garoppolo signed a three-year contract with the team last offseason following the release of Derek Carr. However, midway through the year, interim head coach Antonio Pierce was stripped of that tag by owner Mark Davis, who named him full-time head coach this offseason, and was replaced by rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell. was appointed.

Garoppolo was also suspended for two games into the year for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

Pierce expressed confidence in O’Connell, but perhaps the Raiders are looking for a veteran to start in O’Connell’s place this season as he continues to develop.

Thanks to the veteran minimum contract Wilson is expected to receive (the Broncos still have to pay him $39 million this season), the Raiders would be able to sign him without hurting their finances. .

But that’s the case with many teams talking to Wilson this offseason. He wants a starting role, whichever comes with more funding, or more importantly, he says he wants more Super Bowl rings, so in 2024. It may come down to who can participate.

The Raiders have proven to be a promising team, but they still need a more complete roster. Offensively, they could lose Josh Jacobs to free agency, and he’s been the team’s driving force in the backfield for quite some time.

However, Davante Adams is locked in as the team’s top receiver, and new general manager Tom Telesco has quashed any trade rumors. Telesco also said he would like to try to sign Jacobs to a long-term contract, so there is at least some hope that he can remain in a Raiders uniform.

Wilson’s intentions will soon become clear as the new league year begins. But if the Raiders are serious about signing Wilson next year, they may have to worry about more than just the Steelers and Giants.

Wilson’s tenure with the Broncos was a disaster, as he was benched at the end of the regular season amid controversy over injury guarantees last year. This benching came after a decisive win against the Kansas City Chiefs that kept the Broncos out of the playoffs.
