The Florida Highway Patrol said the search for the driver continued after dashcam footage showed a gray or silver 2020 Honda Civic colliding with the motorcycle.
Shortly after midnight Friday, the driver of a Civic is accused of intentionally striking a 52-year-old motorcyclist from Leesburg in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 near milepost 319 in Sumter County. He is being sued.
“The motorcycle passed a commercial vehicle on the outside shoulder and the Honda passed in the center lane,” FHP said in a press release. “After the two vehicles passed the commercial vehicle, the driver of the Honda suddenly swerved onto the outside shoulder and intentionally collided with the motorcycle.”
Investigators said the motorcycle overturned several times in a wooded area parallel to the road after the Civic left the scene.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, FHP said.
The make and model of the suspect’s vehicle was determined from vehicle parts found at the scene of the accident, but the driver is not listed at this time.
