President Biden explained his comments in an interview on MSNBC after being heard on a hot mic on the House floor, calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.

The moment went viral online after Biden’s State of the Union address, in which the president told a group about a conversation he had with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Prime Minister Netanyahu is also known by his nickname “Bibi.”

“I told him, Bibi [Netanyahu,]…You and I will experience a ‘come to Jesus’ moment,” Biden said, using a term that usually refers to a moment of great realization for someone.

Biden said the expression “come to Jesus” is a common expression in southern Delaware and means “a serious meeting.”

“I’ve known Bibi for 50 years, and he understood what I meant,” Biden told MSNBC anchor Jonathan Capehart in an interview that aired Saturday. .

Asked what Biden meant by using that phrase, the president said he believed Prime Minister Netanyahu needed to do more to prevent innocent casualties in the war with Hamas.

“What’s happening is… [Netanyahu] “We have a right to defend Israel and a right to continue pursuing Hamas, but we must pay more attention to the innocent lives lost as a result of the actions taken,” Biden said.

“He is hurting Israel more than helping it,” he added, adding that it “goes against the representation of Israel.”

“I think this is a big mistake. I want a ceasefire,” Biden told Capehart.

Biden himself has faced criticism from within his own party for not doing enough to prevent civilian deaths in the Gaza Strip, with some accusing him of supporting “genocide.” There are some too.

Biden responded to attacks on his stance on war during his interview with Capehart, the second time the president has responded to the reporter.
