Duke University star Kyle Filipovski, his right foot, injury intentions, and a passionate college basketball crowd are back in the news together.
After Filipovski and North Carolina’s Harrison Ingram both fell to the ground during Saturday’s Tobacco Road rivalry game, Filipovski was the slower of the two to get up, swung his legs to prevent a fastbreak, and intentionally appeared to trip Ingram.
No foul was called and Filipowski immediately began limping suspiciously and left the game.
Social media quickly labeled Filipovski’s play dirty and compared him to former Duke star turned Suns starting guard Grayson Allen, who has a long history of tripping up opponents.
But that play was just the beginning of the ugliness.
After an 84-79 road victory, North Carolina players appeared to be making fun of Duke’s home crowd, and the so-called “Cameron Crazies” responded by throwing trash onto the court.
After his double-double, Ingram told reporters that he was “thrown with water and ice.” “I got hit with a gumball. I thought, who has a gumball? You know, it was all love. It lit up. We were talking like crazy. It was fun. Ta.”
Filipovskiy returned from a tangle with Ingram in the first half and scored 22 points in 31 minutes.
Just two weeks ago, Filipovski injured his right knee when Wake Forest fans stormed the court after defeating Duke, but Filipovski claimed after the game that he thought the injury was intentional. .
So what was he thinking when he took Ingram out, knowing something about intentions?
“I’m not really sure how that whole situation happened,” Filipowski said. “I really just woke up. My foot slipped. I don’t know how I caught him. That’s really all I got. It doesn’t look like he’s coming from anywhere.” I didn’t even know he was back with me. I thought I was the only one left.”
Ingram pleaded with the referee for a tripping foul.
“I feel like he tripped me up,” Ingram said after the game. “But I don’t really know. I haven’t seen the movie yet.”
He probably won’t change his mind even after the film’s reviews
