Biden repeats promise to Black Americans: ‘I have your back’

President Biden redoubled his commitment to stand by Black Americans in an interview Saturday, pointing to his record of support for Black-owned small businesses and strong job creation numbers.

“You promised Black America… that you would support us. Do you feel that you support us?” MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart said in a clip that aired Sunday. asked Mr. Biden.

“I’m rooting for you, just as I have for every president in American history since Lyndon Johnson,” Biden responded. “Black wealth overall increased by 60 percent.”

Biden said he is meeting with Black business owners who are receiving government loans and direct payments to get their businesses back on track.

“Look, there’s nothing they can’t do. I just tried. It’s not just black people, it’s Hispanics and Asian Americans. That’s why these three major organizations supported me today. ,” Biden said, citing endorsements from three major political action committees representing Asian American, Black and Latino voters.

The AAPI Victory Fund, Collective PAC, and Latin American Victory Fund announced their support Saturday, along with a $30 million pledge to help mobilize communities of color in support of Biden’s re-election campaign.

“We’ve kept their businesses going because we’ve done it. We’ve kept them going and there are more small businesses opening than at any time in the last 50 years,” Biden said. , added that small and medium-sized businesses account for half of the economy.

Biden also touted efforts to rely on American workers to manufacture products in the United States.

“Well, that’s what I’m doing,” Biden said. “And I said I’m going to make sure 20 percent of all funds go to minority businesses and small businesses. Guess what? 21 percent is gone. It’s growing the economy. . That’s what unites the country.”
