Catherine Lidstone’s Faith Journey Mirrors Her Role as Mary in The Chosen

Actress Catherine Lidstone was hiking near her home in Los Angeles when she learned that she would finally have the opportunity to have her face seen by millions.

During that hike, she met an actor friend who had just landed a role in a new TV series based on the Bible. Chosen person. At the time, she was filming a series for Fox. proven innocenceBut the possibility of starring in a faith-based project about Jesus piqued her interest. After all, it was consistent with her Christian faith. It will also provide another job.

“He said, ‘I have no idea what’s going to happen, whether it’s going to be successful or not.’ This is a pilot…very low budget.”

Lidstone was undaunted by the series’ obscurity. She asked the manager to look into it. After unsuccessfully auditioning for the second season, she won the role of Mary Bettany, known as Mary from “Mary and Martha,” starting in the third season. Her role led to her appearing in multiple episodes as well as her two major scenes in The Bible. Mary listens to Jesus when her sister complains, and then Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead. She calls the role “a great gift.”

The series grew from a low-budget pilot to a multi-million dollar global hit.

“We are just amazed at the success this show has achieved,” she told Christian Headlines. “…It obviously really reached people’s hearts.”

Chosen person This isn’t her only faith-based project.Lidstone plays lead role in new movie 47 days with JesusThe film depicts a couple facing marital discord, but who are reunited by telling their children the story of Jesus’ last days on earth. Lidstone’s character, Juliana, is “trying to keep her family running in a loving and competent manner,” but unfortunately her husband is facing challenges at work that affect their daily lives. Mr. Lidstone said.

“Hope comes from not giving up on each other,” she says.

Lidstone’s personal faith grew as she grew older, she said.

“I found [faith] “Through a series of events that I think God ordained,” she said. “…When I think back, I think a lot of things happened outside of my design. I’m very grateful.”

She said her former agent, who began full-time ministry, had a huge impact on her life. Lidstone began attending her church.

“That church has a lot of great programs,” she said under the Christian heading. “…There’s a course where you read the entire Bible from cover to cover, from Genesis to Revelation — it’s a two-year course. And I took that course. And that course was my I think it really changed my life. I had never read the Bible completely before, but reading it taught me things about life on this earth that I would never have known otherwise. You get a great perspective.”

She says the Bible is “truly a love letter from God to humanity.”

“It’s not easy to read. And I think there are a lot of questions that we have as modern people that are very difficult to fight and wrestle with,” she said. “But I think that’s part of what God is. God wants you to explore it through Him. He wants you to ask those questions. God will get you through the times when you doubt Him and hopefully at the end of it you will say, “I love you, and I trust in you, because you first loved me.” He wants you to come.”
