Stouts have always been shrouded in secrecy, and the beer style’s name alone has become synonymous with rebellion.

Mysteriously deep ruby red to jet black in color and full of aromatic malt flavours, this beer is the only dark beer to survive and thrive in a world of golden beers.

But Stout is suddenly having a moment that goes far beyond the annual St. Patrick’s Day excitement.

Ancestry, Guinness Book of Records, and a trove of records tracing the history of millions of Irish Americans

“Stout popularity is at an all-time high,” beer industry analyst Bump Williams told Fox News Digital.

The world’s most famous stout brand, Guinness from Dublin, Ireland, is rapidly growing.

North American sales rose 20% last year, according to industry data. This is an almost unfathomable rise for a mature, widely distributed brand.

Williams, of Bump Williams Consulting in Connecticut, said growth was fueled by the highly successful recent rollout of Guinness 0.0, the company’s new non-alcoholic stout.

Female drinkers are also seeing a surge in stout consumption, as dark beers reveal deep enlightenment.

“Of all the beer styles, stouts are the healthiest when consumed in moderation,” Michigan’s Meagen Anderson, a national beverage expert and certified cicerone (beer sommelier), told FOX News Digital.

Stouts are made by mashing deeply roasted, unmalted barley, she points out. Toasted barley gives the stout a dark color and coffee-like flavor.

However, it does not contain the fermentable sugars found in malted barley.

As a result, traditional Irish stouts have lower alcohol content and fewer calories and carbohydrates than mainstream golden lagers.

Stouts are also rich in antioxidants, calcium, iron, and B vitamins compared to light beers. This is just an example of this style of rebellion.

“Dark colors and coffee-like flavors turn people off,” said Anderson, global sales director at Sustainable Beverage Technologies.

She also recently founded the AFicioNAdo certification program.
