The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday announced a recall of certain cashew nuts sold at Walmart. The manufacturer discovered that the cans were incorrectly labeled and therefore did not contain proper allergen warnings.
John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. (JBSS) announces a voluntary recall of certain Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews sold in Walmart stores.
Potentially affected products are packaged in 8.25-ounce plastic cans with blue wrap around the label and a “best by” date of July 8, 2025 GH2.
JBSS, which makes Great Value products, said it discovered the problem after a consumer alerted the company that cans labeled as honey roasted cashews actually contained coconut cashews.
“An investigation revealed that a limited number of plastic cans of coconut cashew nuts were incorrectly labeled as Honey Roasted Cashew Nuts during the manufacturing process,” the company said in a statement.
The recall cited “undeclared milk and coconut allergens” as the reason for the announcement.
“People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to coconut or milk may be at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product within the expiry date listed below.” The warning states:
The company says no side effects have been reported, but is warning customers who still own the product not to take it. The company said customers should either throw away the product or return it to Walmart for a full refund.
This product was sold on Walmart.com in the following states: AL, AR, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, HI, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MO, MS, NC , NE, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and West Virginia.
