Scottie Scheffler appears to be feeling some soreness during the second round of The Players.
At the top of the 12th par-4, the third hole of the day, Scheffler stopped, rubbed the back of his neck and spoke with the rules official.
He asked the official: Can receive biofreezesaid Sean Martin of the PGA Tour.
And two holes later, after birdieing the 13th, Scheffler sat in a chair next to the 14th tee instead of playing the honorable top spot.As I sit there, the 2022 Masters Champion… I received a neck massage I was hoping that my physical therapist would help me stretch it.
Meanwhile, Scheffler’s playing partners Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler continued to tee off while the reigning Players champion received treatment.
About five minutes later, Scheffler got up, took a few careful practice swings, and then hit a 275-yard drive that hit the fairway again. But Scheffler looked a little off on the 14th tee shot.
Still, Scheffler gave himself another great chance on No. 14, one of the most difficult holes at TPC Sawgrass. He hit his second shot to 19 feet and tapped in for an easy par.
However, on the next hole, Scheffler unusually missed the fairway to the left and suffered his first bogey of the day.
At the next tee box, the easy par-5 16th, Scheffler sat down again and received a neck massage. Ironically, he was the only player to hit the fairway on No. 16, driving 291 yards and carrying 286 yards.
There is no doubt that the world No. 1 player is feeling some discomfort. But nothing could have foreseen these events from his first round.
Scheffler shot a 5-under 67 on Thursday to finish two strokes ahead of Windham Clark, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele. Afterwards, he revealed nothing to the media about his neck, saying it had been a “normal week” so far.
Scheffler also called his first round “stress-free.”
This is a developing situation. Please check the latest information.
