Adam Hadwin launched his club into the water after hitting the ball into a drink at the Players Championship on Thursday.
Trouble for the Canadian began on the hole in front of the famous 17th island green on the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Hadwin hit into the water on that hole for double bogey, then hit his drive into the water on the 18th.
Hadwin stood on a bulkhead near the water and tried to hit a low draw onto the green.
The shot landed in the fairway, but as it approached the green it sloped off to the left and the ball rolled into the water.
Frustrated, Hadwin continued to make bogeys on the hole and ended the first round at 3 over when he drove his iron into the water.
“This shows how this golf course can knock you off your rocker,” analyst Nota Begay said on the broadcast. According to Golf.com.
Adam’s wife Jessica had a more humorous take on the situation.
“Apparently I missed the moment on number 18 when the club joined my good friend The Ball, so I can’t help with commentary, but I’ll be sure to ask what happened as soon as the round is over!” Jessica wrote in a series of posts about X.
“I’ve seen the moments in question. If you’re just talking about the beauty of the toss…10/10,” said Jessica, who frequently jokes about Adam’s game and shares moments from her own life on social media. Told.
Jessica later shared a photo of Adam and her daughter with the message: “It won’t bring back the club, but it will help ease the pain of the waterball,” along with a cookie emoji.
After the first round of the Players Championship, Windham Clark, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele were tied for first place, with the second round beginning Friday morning.
