It would take March Madness history to keep St. John’s out of tournament

At this point, for St. John’s to miss the NCAA Tournament, it would first have to be in the NCAA Tournament.

Since the NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool) rankings were introduced in 2019, the highest-ranked team to miss the tournament that year was North Carolina State (33rd).

St. John’s University is currently No. 32 in the NET rankings, but it is unlikely to fall because it will face No. 2 Connecticut State in the Big East Tournament semifinals Friday night.

NET is the main metric used by the committee to evaluate teams.

In fact, only six teams failed to reach the dance with NET rankings in the 30s. They are North Carolina State, Clemson (35th) and Texas (38th) in 2019, Texas A&M (36th) and Oklahoma State (39th) and North Texas in 2022. (38) Last year.

Most experts believe that, at worst, St. John’s, which has won six straight games, will be sent to the First Four in Dayton even if it loses against the Huskies.
